Description

Cole Brothers began life as a silk and hosiers store in 1847 and was set up by two brothers. Their third brother subsequently joined the enterprise and by 1869 it had expanded significantly to include upper floors. By the early 1900s, they were employing women (unusual for the time) and went on to enjoy many years of success as an enduring symbol of Sheffield. The store became part of the John Lewis Partnership in 2001 before finally "shutting up shop".
In 2023, Urban Splash took on the responsibility of reimagining the beloved building to its rightful place as a centrepiece of city centre life (much like the transformative journey they have already begun with the revitalisation of another historic Sheffield icon, Park Hill).
Alongside the Heart of the City redevelopment, the rebirth of this landmark building will help bring people, jobs and creativity back to the city centre.

Location

Cole Brothers is a Grade II listed building in the heart of Sheffield, a landmark known far beyond the city. It is located at Barker's Pool and sits directly opposite the City Hall and pedestrianised area to the front. The public transport (bus and tram) network is nearby on West Street (with the main train station being a 10 minute walk).

The Approach

Urban Splash are working with architects AHMM to evolve the building's legacy into an exciting new hub for Sheffield's future. They therefore seek partnerships with great brands, independents and businesses that are as committed to Sheffield as they are, aiming to create a place that local people will love and feel inspired to use.

The Opportunity

We would welcome hearing from those interested in partnering with Urban Splash and who are inspired by our client's approach. To that end, we have the following availability:
- basement level: 11,600 sq ft of retail/F&B/leisure space
- lower ground and ground floors: from 2,717 - 54,242 sq ft of retail/F&B/leisure space
- first and remaining upper floors: from 24,000 - 96,000 sq ft of fantastic flexible workspace (available either on a floor by floor basis, or in a shared serviced office facility)
