Leah’s Yard: the “go-ahead”

We are delighted to learn that formal approval has been given to the plans to turn Sheffield’s historic Leah’s Yard into a social hub for creative independent businesses.  The plans for the revival are the latest piece of the city’s transformational jigsaw – the Heart of the City development scheme – being brought to life by Sheffield CC and it’s strategic development partner, Queensberry.

Formerly a collection of small industrial workshops, Leah’s Yard has long been listed on Historic England’s ‘Building at Risk’ register.  So the refurbishment of the existing complex largely seeks to retain it in its current form.  A central public courtyard will be surrounded by small boutique shops, while the first and second floors will host about 20 independent working studios.

An operator has been chosen to run the venture.  Their plan is to transform the site into an experience-led destination for local independent retailers, businesses, creative workshops and social events.
